The Black Sun of Ciguri is a nomadic international theatrical work with dance, voice and spoken dialogue, in a powerful lyrical style. Written by Charles Matz, The Black Sun of Ciguri follows the life of Antonin Artaud, from his visit to Mexico in 1936, where he tried peyote under the tutelage of the Tarahumara Indians, to his return to France, his commitment to an asylum, and his ultimate, tragic demise.
The eighty-eight minutes of music was written by the Mexican composer Carlo Nicolau, with additional portions written and arranged by Rosino Serrano and by José Navarro. The music employs indigenous percussion instruments, as well as strings and electronic sound. Luis Felipe Herrera-Tlatoa, a Grammy-award producer and musician based in New York, is the head of this incredible team.
