[Homage to Joe Jones].
Music/text by Antonio Lai da Teulada.
Originally choreographed by Clare Ann Matz; revisited by Eveleena Dann.
The movement of the single dancer, a woman accompanied by mechanical “destroyed” music, forms a lonely figure in the desert of life in New York, the choreography of a controversial religious hymn to the hidden god of self.
In this apocalyptic vision of the future, which is also a celebration of the absolute of humankind, the text derives from a collection of poems about New York. The text in English has been shaped into a concert machine for voices: one child, two women, and two men, mixed with noises, varied sound, and the ambient music of the city itself.
The music machines used were a gift to Antonio Lai da Teulada from Joe Jones. The originals were built in Soho in New York City by Joe Jones for George Maciunas and his Fluxus movement in 1965.
